Tips to keep active in later life

No matter your age, being active is good for your body and mindIt can help you manage stress, lower high blood pressure, ease joint or back pain and boost your energy levels.

It is  important to do what you can within your own ability and you should speak to your GP if you have any concerns about becoming more active.

  • Be physically active every day, even if it’s just light activity

  • If you can, set a reminder on your phone to get up and move every 30 or 60 minutes during the day to reduce time spent sitting or lying down

  • Do activities that improve strength, balance and flexibility on at least two days a week. These may include swimming, aerobics or chair-based exercises

If you are looking to do more exercise, Knowsley's 'Activity for Life' programme runs at Volair leisure centres across the borough and offers 12 weeks of supervised exercise sessions, for individuals living with certain health conditionsFor further information, or to be referred, contact your GP or the Healthy Knowsley Service.
